In 2024, Uygar was our Painting winner. He would like to share his experience and tell us more about himself.

Uygar was born in 1998 in Istanbul. His journey in art began at Adıgüzel Fine Arts High School, and in 2021, he graduated from the Painting Department of Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University. He currently resides in Istanbul, where he continues to create his paintings.

The winning piece, titled Encounter, symbolises an individual’s departure from a group they belong to and explores the uncertainty, surprises, and paths they encounter after making this choice. The artwork delves into the psychology of freedom, focusing on how confronting the reality of life’s inherent uncertainty and meaninglessness can evoke anxiety within the individual.

Uygar offers a few tips for emerging artists: “Whatever you believe in your heart, bring it sincerely to your art.”

He also encourages artists to apply for art prizes, as they provide valuable opportunities to showcase their work and perspectives to respected juries. Additionally, these competitions offer access to a broader community of artists, fostering connections and collaboration. According to Uygar, participating in such events helps artists step out of their personal creative spaces and engage with the wider art world.

Winning the Painting category has made Uygar feel honored and proud to have his voice heard beyond the borders of his own country. Following this achievement, his priorities are to create paintings that deeply reflect his philosophy while embracing a patient and thoughtful artistic process. This mindset aligns with his vision of artistic success, which he defines as being personally satisfied with one’s creations and sharing them with the widest possible audience.

Uygar’s biggest takeaway from his artistic journey can be summed up in one word: “patience.” He explains, “Sometimes it can be very tiring, and you can’t see what’s ahead of you. But suddenly, you find new inspirations, new ways out, and new solutions—it often happens at the most unexpected times.”

Next year, Uygar will be part of an exhibition at the CICA Museum in Korea. He is eagerly looking forward to showcasing his work and immersing himself in the rich culture of Korea.
